Alcohol price is directly linked to alcohol harm rates: the more affordable alcohol is, the more is consumed, and the more harm caused. In recent years, alcohol harm has skyrocketed, with deaths from alcohol increasing by 27% since 2019.  

Alcohol duty is one of the most effective ways to tackle alcohol harm, while also bringing in much needed revenue for the country.  

Yet, alcohol duty has been cut or frozen most years in the past decade. As a result, alcohol has become 14% more affordable since 2010.

This is why it is great news that in the 2023 Spring Budget, the Chancellor announced that alcohol duty will rise in line with inflation from August!
